  Lonely Coyote
©2006 Kimrea

I stood outside the tavern in the early evening listening
to all the people talking, talking fast and loud
I was saying nothing, I had nothing to say
I heard the music playing in the background from the stage
As the sun set slowly on the town

Another lonely coyote howling at the moon
Another lonely coyote singing out of tune
Another lonely coyote looking for some company
Looking for some company

I leaned against the doorjamb and watched the evening traffic
Three men smoking cigars sat nearby on a bench
All laughing and talking, shouting to be heard
The guitar player kept strumming up there on his stool
Singing his lonesome cowboy song

Another lonely coyote howling at the moon
Another lonely coyote singing out of tune
Another lonely coyote looking for some company
Looking for some company

I stood quietly listening, songbirds singing in the breeze
Wind whistling through a million autumn leaves
Over motorcycle roar and conversation din
The music drifted in and out like a spiders thread
All tangled up inside my head

Another lonely coyote howling at the moon
Another lonely coyote singing out of tune
Another lonely coyote looking for some company
Looking for some company
